What is a vice?

Vice is something that we simply can’t do without or so we say. Everytime we would have strong supporting reasons and evidences for our vices. Vices would make us weak and we would be at it’s beck & call. When the “siren” sings, we would be totally drawn to it like a mindless zombie. It’s hold onto us is so strong, how are we normal human beings able to break free?? We are totally defenseless against it and need divine help. As we are not gods nor have any divine power, we then continue with our vices.

The vices of most ladies are shopping, soap operas, gossips and shopping. Hmm… I did repeat that didn’t I? Must be keyboard error.

Okay… let’s get to the guys’ turn. Aahhh….eeerrr…..hmph. Nothing of significant to mention, so let me continue with my blog.

Want to know what is my savoring and entertaining vice? Ok! Let the show begins!! My vice is buying electronic gadgets. Hahaha…. some people want their money back already. Sorry no refund.

It is without a doubt that I am a nerd and a geek. You would never be able to get me break out of my vice nor tear me away from it. Weep ladies, boys and his toys. No way Jose, am I going to abandon it.

If you tell someone about 40 years ago that you wish for a world where your typewriter weighs less than 1kg and your mails will immediately pop into your “typewriter” or you can receive & make telephone calls wherever you go without the telephone booth. They will tell you that you are day – dreaming.

Electronic gadgets are necessities of our lives. We can name laptops, tablets, e-Books or even smart phones like iPhone and Nokia E – series. It makes our lives so much easier and happier…

Like the Swiss watch that I bought. It has so many applications.

1) It can tell the temperature;

2) It can tell how high above the sea level;

3) It can tell whether it is day or night;

4) It can glow in the dark;

5) It has a stop watch function; and finally

6) It has 200 meters water resistant.

Oh yes, it tells the time too. Worth every cent that I bought it for.

Whenever, I enter an electronic gadget shop. They would roll out the red carpet and even open my car door for me. Yeah….they could see suckers like me miles away. A good example is my Play Station, I bought so many additional equipments for it. If you see it now, it is an electronic octopus, with numerous wires coming out from the main unit.

Vices… are they good or bad? It is difficult to say. Most people would abhor when they see us with our vice. It is true that most vices are culturally disliked. Nobody likes to see another person with their vice. Well, too bad, it makes me happy and that is good enough. Ok, where did I put my Electronic Anti – Gravity Dripless Ultimate Writer’s Pen?

Maids and Problems With Them

I am sure that most of our household or parent's house has at least a maid.

Most of my friends would be having Indonesian maids in their Malaysian houses or apartments. For me, are the maids (or they call it house girls over here in Nigeria).

One thing about having maids is to learn patience..... which sometimes can run to be very thin. I am a patience guy. Never scold them (never once for 7 years in Myanmar). I am considered to be a very good boss. I believe that I am so, until I arrive in Nigeria.

How I wish to tear my hair out of my head!!! or to strangle my maid by the neck!

To some of the so - called politicans here, they say that Nigeria is a first world country. First world in their prices is right. Everything is so damn expensive..... Any other thing, I do not know whether qualified to even classify as 3rd world.

Myanmar is one of the poorest country in ASEAN, right? I would conclude that Nigeria is a lot worse off than Myanmar. People are earning the same amount of salary as Malaysian people but yet they are poorer than Myanmar people. Very pathetic.

Ok, let's get back to the maid issue. Got side tracked. Where were I? Oh yes, about me being such a good guy.

I am a good guy (someone would say that my hide is getting thicker now), never scolded any of my previous maid(s) before. I would always give bonus to them at every month end out of my own pocket. But the current one, how I wish that I could not give her salary at all. You want to know why am I so mad? Let me list it out :

1) Put the rice spoon next to the rubbish bin;
2) Doesn't know that celery, spinach or mushroom are vegetables that I had taken out in the morning for dinner, so... didn't cook rice for me;
3) Didn't know that a can with a dog's face is dog food;
4) Asking me how to cook a big bag of dried dog food, thinking it was cereal;
5) Using a different lock on my house door when the one I gave her, she doesn't know how to use it (imagine when I came out and couldn't get out of the house). She lives in the outside compound.

I think I better stop listing it out anymore, if not, I will fire her tomorrow - liao. I am going to conclude that she is really takes the cake for being a person who are in a FIRST WORLD country when I am not even from one.

Do you still remember of the crush(es) that we encounter when we were in high school?

Aahh..... especially still for me who are from the boys Christian school and when our puberty (or should I say, hormones) starts to kick in. When did those female species became so interesting? Those Lower 6 girls were sure attractive when we were just Form 4. Who cares if they are 2 years older than we were. We would be lost in Cloud 9 most of the time. I wonder is it on purpose where our Form 4 classes were situated directly in front of the stairs where the Form 6 girls would come down?

I would still remember when my uncles were teasing me when I were 13 years old and entering the high school. Just a few more years and I would be having a girl - friend, they said. I replied, "Girls? Yucks! I would not have a girl - friend." They would just laugh and laugh. Guess I knew what they were laughing about and also me who are currently doing the teasing with my younger cousins and nephews.

No matter how high we were feeling when we're in love (or should I say crushes), nothing would beat it when we get the first heartbreak. Goodness, it was like heaven had fallen on my head, my world is dying or my heart is being pierced by hundreds (if not thousands) of razor sharp knives.

My parents pitied on me greatly when it happened. They would comfort that it is a normal thing. Part and parcel of growing up. You would be able to find another. She is not good enough for you or my favourite, she is foolish not to accept you. However, it still lasted for around 1 month with the days easier to go by one after the other.

Classmates were a great help and comfort too when they knew it happened to you. They would immediately rush by your side and comfort you. I would say classmates are the best friends anyone could find. When it happened to another friend, we would get informed immediately and like had received an SMS, we would quickly rush to the classmate's help. We know that it would not ease anything at that moment when it happened but when our painful mind is recovering, we would be thankful that they were there at that time. I guess that what makes school mates as the best friend and the most memorable one.

How I wish when we are still back there during the time of innocence. Wonder would it happen the same thing when we are adult? Hmmm.............

What Am I Going To Do In The Weekend?

Oh my God!! It's another weekend! What the hell am I going to do?

You know, this has been my dilemma for the past 8 years. As most of your would know, I had been living in overseas for nearly the whole of my working life. I just could not get the feeling like you people or when I were back in Penang.

When I were working back in Penang, I were EAGERLY waiting for the weekend to come. Hurray! No more work and can go out late nights on Friday and Saturday or catch a movie or going out with friends / girlfriends or clubbings. But when you are in other people's countries, I just don't get that feeling. The arrival of Friday is so dreaded by me that I wish Sat and Sun like singing the children's song, "Weekend, weekend go away. Come again another week. Boone Boone wants to work all day."

How I wish that I could be like my staffs and ex - staffs in other countries when it is time to go back on Friday evening. All the chit chatters of "Are you going to this concert? Are we going for the meet - up at this and this place?", where did those questions lost from my mouth?

Why must my questions now be "What am I going to do? Where to go? My God, the maid's not working. What am I going to eat?"

Maybe I should follow what a friend of mine gonna do, eat grass. Then catch mosquitoes for exercise until the Sunday night arrives.

I got the so - called English song around 2 years ago and the Marriot's advertisement around 6 years ago. One of my friend e - mailed to me at that time.

Just now after chatting with my "Fermented Beancurd" who felt down, I thought of this MV and thus went and search it from YouTube. Luckily I found it under the search name of "Funny English Song" and "Funny Marriot Advert".

I would like to dedicate this post to her to cheer her up a bit.

Download YouTube and Tudou files into iTune

I always like to download movies, series and especially music videos into my iTune so that I can see and listen to it as often as I want.

For YouTube, it is a software from DVDVideosoft . After you had installed it, just copy the YouTube url file into the the "Input video file" and Convert.

For Tudou.com, it requires more than 1 step.
1) You have to click on the video that you requires;
2) On the url above, enter the word "kiss" in front of the word "tudou" like as follows:
http://www.kisstudou.com/programs/view/rP2ibzv6KSY/
3) On the link with the extension *.flv, right click it and "save as" into your HD.
4) After it had been downloaded, use the above DVDVideosoft and convert it into the *.m4a file because the "kiss" website would download the file into an *.flv file only.
5) In the DVDVideosoft program, rather than copy the url, click "Browse" button and find the *.flv file to be converted.

The best thing of all is that DVDVideosoft is FREE. I had been using it for more than 3 months now. My iTune is full of MVs. But just lately introduced into Tudou by Ah Leng. Thank you..... again Ah Leng.

Myanmar New Year

Are we humans 'hard wired' to have festivals? Does celebrating them appeal to deep needs in our nature? Whether or not we can answer these questions with a clear scientific 'yes', it is clear that observing festivals is nearly universal in the human story.

Being imaginative, people everywhere put energy into repeating festivals or inventing new ones. These maybe secular, which means they take note of things that everyone can check out easily in experience : weddings, births and anniversaries.

More often, however, festivals are sacred. Most religions relate to groups, so religious festivals lead to engagement through rites and practices that bring them together and, they feel, ennoble otherwise ordinary life.

Anyone who has ever looked forward to big events such as weddings or has looked back fondly to others, such as having won a prize, will know how valuable people find it to deal with the really Big Events that they believe had gone on 'behind the scenes', beyond the senses.

It is by no accident that the English word 'holiday' derives from 'holy day'. Down the ages, across all the great faiths of the world, people have celebrated the major days of their faiths as times for fun, feasting, travel and reunion. As far back as I can think of, people have recognised the need to relieve the monotony of the ordinary working life with special days - days when the normal pattern of work is broken and everyone is permitted, even required, to stop work and enjoy themselves instead.

I have no idea what prehistoric people might have celebrated, but they do have festivals. Festivals are the concrete expression of the religious life form which they spring, and the most fascinating windows into a faith. As well as being times of relaxation, times set aside from the ordinary working year, festivals are living reminders to the faithful of what their religion teaches, and an assertion to the rest of humanity about the value of those teachings.

In all the major faiths, the yearly cycle of festivals not only recounts a story, but reflects on the meaning of that story in relation to the pattern of the universe, the nature of God and the hopes, fears, frailties and potential of human beings. Through drama, ritual, liturgy or dance, festivals repeat key stories of the faith; activities that encapsulate core concepts in a way that can be grasped and witnessed by outsiders.

For much of the year, religions are practised in quieter, often enclosed ways. But at festival time, it is as if the faith is putting on a show, offering everyone the chance to see and hear what is of greatest importance and held most dear to its adherents. These are celebrated with street processions through street after street when everyone and anyone is invited to come and join in the fun.

Such festival in Myanmar is the yearly awaited Thingyan Festival or Myanmar Water Festival in the month of April.
